Solid southern food. Cool space. Up-and-comng neighborhood. All of those incomplete sentences are true about this restaurant. Anyway, I highly recommend it and here are pictures of everything I ordered. For real reviews, there is Tom Sietsema's review for WaPo, and more info on it from WCP.
All about these appetizers. Squash puppies, cornbread, and citrus-marinated shrimp. You can figure out which one is which.
Cornbread muffins with molasses-rosemary butter. Kind of awesome. I'm probably going to try and recreate the butter at home. Here is the cornbread Wikipedia page if you want to do some at-home research on cornbread.
Citrus-marinated shrimp with bread on the side. This link is not really connected to this at all but I found a 1997 NYTimes article called "Marinade, a Steak's Security Blanket." You can read it if you want, but you don't have to.
The squash puppies had a lot of hype from Yelp and stuff and I agreed that they are very good.
Moving on from the 'tizers, I got the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich because I'm a sucker for buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches. What can I say. I loved this sandwich so much, so I'll add in an extra photo of it below.
